Lockdown 2020 : Glangwili Mansion Style

It’s been 9 long months since we have been able to welcome guests to Glangwili Mansion.

We closed in December so we could build an extension and re-furbish our guest rooms and just as we were about to re-open with a flourish………..LOCKDOWN!

Overnight, Glangwili Mansion changed from a 5-star B&B to a commune for four generations of family from 7 years to 92 years old.

The weather was glorious for 8 weeks, the builders had to leave the annex on half, and I felt as if I had been transported back to the 1950’s – cooking for my family, home schooling, den building, walks in the forest, paddling in the stream, cooking over an open fire in the garden – just like in the book Swallows and Amazons!  I had to pinch myself because it was so idyllic although I did have pangs of guilt that outside of our bubble, so many people were going through isolation, hardship and terrible loss.

So here we are, tentatively looking forward to resuming real life and getting ready to open our doors again to guests on the 14th August. Our Granny will be in residence in her new annex within the next couple of weeks, our two suites have been renamed and have had a complete makeover and we have put in place new protocols to keep our guests as safe as possible from Covid infection, in line with Welsh Government guidelines.

This pandemic has been a shock to everyone and the repercussions will last for a very long time, but I will look back at this time in lockdown with very fond memories and it has made us realise how lucky we are and what is important.

We have been forced to slow down and appreciate the wonderful area where we live. Having time to spend with family has been a pleasure and I am so grateful that we had the space to be able to offer them a home and support in these scary times.

Having my 7 year old grandson living with us has been a joy, allowing me to find my inner teacher as well as rediscovering my inner child (we built a fantastic den under the rhododendron bushes together) – a privilege that I wouldn’t have had in normal times, with so many happy memories made.

Soon, normal life will resume and we are very much looking forward to welcoming new and returning guests back to Glangwili Mansion from 14th August – it’s been a long 9 months!

Have a look at our updated website and come and enjoy all that this lovely area has to offer.

And don’t forget, it’s always cheaper to book direct!
